The collective effort of our founding members built the foundation on which the many programs and services for children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities which are available today.

The Arc New York is an organization influenced from the grassroots upward. The grassroots tradition of The Arc New York and Arc of Onondaga is the pulse that influences the directions of public policy, constitutes the basis for legislative action, and promotes social change. Let’s remember that the hard work and active membership got us where we are today is needed to help meet the challenges that still exist.

YOUR MEMBERSHIP HELPS THE ARC NY CHAPTERS

Arc chapters throughout New York are continuously facing budget reductions which threaten the entire structure of how we operate.  Please help us by joining our membership campaign.  All it takes is your signature to our cause. The more signatures we have, the stronger our voices are.

Here is what your membership helps us accomplish:

  • Influence policy and funding decisions of county legislators, boards of education, community services boards, village and city administration
  • Advocate for people with intellectual and other developmental disabilities
  • Fund information, education, advocacy and support programs for parents, family members and the general public
  • Help people with developmental or intellectual disabilities plan for their own services
  • Find volunteers for critical programs and policy efforts
  • Develop legislative agenda that reflects the needs of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities
  • Provide leadership and training opportunities
  • Build coalitions with parents and professional organizations in planning and implementing public policy on a statewide level
