Wilbur Center for Opportunity

As part of Arc of Onondaga’s 70+ year commitment to providing services to people with developmental disabilities, the agency invites you to support a new fundraising initiative that will help transform 5,000+ square feet of space and provide expanded opportunities.

The space was once used as Arc’s sheltered workshop, which provided vocational opportunities to people who received support from the agency. In the fall of 2019, nearly 100 people who worked in the sheltered workshop transitioned to community-based experiences to foster inclusion and expand opportunities for discovery, training and employment.

Opening in 2023, the Wilbur Center for Opportunity will house a certified day habilitation program and be the hub for: a community-based Without Walls (WOW) program, and our community-based Pre-Vocational program which provides training for people who are looking for employment. Plans for the renovation also include a dedicated art space for ArtSurge – a program for teens ages 12-18 who have been diagnosed with autism or an autism spectrum disorder, a computer lab, a gathering space/lounge, and both residential and commercial kitchens to provide independent living skills and pre-vocational training for people who are interested in pursuing a job in the hospitality industry.
