Horizons Clinic Horizons Article 16 Clinic provides therapeutic, clinical services to individuals with developmental disabilities, age 4 and up, to enhance their quality of life and help them achieve their fullest potential. A division of Arc of Onondaga, Horizons is a free-standing, Article 16 Clinic certified by the New York State Office of People With Developmental Disabilities.Under the direction of a Board-certified physician, a licensed,dedicated, sensitive and professional staff provide the services offered by Horizons Clinic. All staff members are completely familiar with the special needs of the people they serve. Services Provided by Horizons Clinic· Psychological Evaluation and Testing IQ/Adaptive Testing for OPWDD eligibility · Sexuality Assessments Determines ability to give informed consent for sexual relationships · Medical Affidavits · Social Work Counseling Grief, anger management, self esteem, social skills, sexuality issues, etc. · Guardianship Affidavits To obtain court-ordered guardianship of an individual after age 18 · Rehabilitation Counseling Vocational/work issues, job & interview skills, career exploration, work ethics, etc. Click here for program participant pre-vocational opportunities · Nutritional Services Obesity, high blood pressure/cholesterol, special diets, etc. · Occupational/Physical Therapy
Who pays for Clinical Services? Occupational Therapy ServicesIn addition to those enrolled in an Arc of Onondaga Day Habilitation program, Horizons Clinic is now accepting applications for all individuals in need of Occupational Therapy to be provided by Ann Sullivan, OTR within Arc’s site-based Day Habs.
What is Occupational Therapy?
An essential component of Horizons Clinic is the occupational therapy services. These services include: fine motor skill development, improving muscle tone, and perceptual and sensory motor skills development.
Additionally, Ann Sullivan, OTR, also specializes in sensory integration techniques to maximize each participant’s functional abilities.
The aim of occupational therapy is to help the client perform daily tasks in their living and working environments and assist them in developing the skills to live independent, satisfying and productive lives.
Areas addressed during OT sessions:
· Activities of daily living self-care, dressing, grooming, adaptive equipment for dining
· Fine/gross motor skills
· Adaptations/ modifications to environment to assist with function- splinting, positioning/seating
· Sensory integration- techniques to enhance how others interpret and respond to sensory input
from their environment such as tactile (sense of touch) and vestibular (movement, balance,
gravity)
All therapeutic services are individually tailored to the individual’s specific needs – keeping with Arc of Onondaga’s mission of assisting individuals with developmental disabilities achieve their fullest potential.
