Arc Race 2010 Information

The 5k & Half-Marathon courses are certified by the USATF. Course numbers are NY04043AM for the 5k and NY04042AM for the Half Marathon. Courses must be certified for any road running performance to be accepted as a record or to be nationally ranked. Furthermore, running a race on a certified course allows you to accurately compare your time to performance runs on other certified courses because you can be sure the distances were exactly the same. No one can truly establish a personal best if the course distance is not accurate. Not only does this enable accurate timing, but also allows us to quickly post results on race day.

WATER STATIONS
There are 13 water tables throughout the Arc Race course. Each table is staffed by generous community volunteers who distribute water and sports drink to thirsty participants! If you or your group would like to volunteer to help at a water station, please fill out our Volunteer Form! Plenty of water, snacks, and other refreshments are available near the finish line and throughout the park.

FIRST AID AND EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES
Arc Race has a variety of emergency medical personnel, police and ambulances posted throughout Long Branch Park and the various courses for the duration of the race. In addition, there is a First Aid tent near the start and finish lines. Observers throughout the course, including lead and trail bikers also help to ensure the safety of all participants.  You may also dial 911 at any time during the event for emergency assistance.

Arc Race uses Leone Timing and their technology to accurately record each runner’s time as he or she crosses the finish line. A small, unobtrusive plastic chip is affixed to each participant’s shoe laces. A special receiver on the finish line records each unique runner as they pass by it. Not only does this enable accurate timing, but also allows us to publish and post results on race day quickly.

Chips will be provided by Arc when they pick up their race packet. nbsp;  The Family Fun Walk does not utilize timing chips as it is not a competitive event.

Arc Race's free Family Fun Zone is a major part of the event!  Live music and entertainment, kids games, playground, attractions, giveaways and free refreshments are just a part of the experience at the Arc Race Family Fun Zone.  Past Family Fun Zone attractions have included hot air balloon rides, a petting zoo, face painting, magicians, bouncy castle rides and pictures with cartoon characters like Bugs Bunny and Otto the Orange.  Specific information about musical entertainment and famous characters attending the Race will be available closer to race date.  The entire Family Fun Area is free and open to race participants and their family and friends - so come join us at Long Branch Park.

Arc Race Expo Village features services and information just for our participants. Receive free massages and chiropractic adjustments, get information about health and wellness topics, check out merchandise from local vendors, sample free products and more.

Online registration is not currently open for Arc Race 2010.

Pre-Registration

Pre-registered runners and walkers save money with discounted registration fees and are also guaranteed a race t-shirt if they register by August 31st.  We highly encourage all runners and walkers to register ahead of the event.   Participants who register during Late Pre-Registration (between September 1st - 9th) will pay an extra $2 per registration.  Online registration will close at Noon EST on September 8th.  Paper registrations must be postmarked by September 7th.

Race Day Registration
Arc also allows participants to register on the morning of the race. If you wish to do so, please leave ample time before your event begins! Be aware that hundreds of people register on the day of our event.   We recommend arriving at least one full hour early to allow for parking and long lines!   Race Day Registration is only open from 7:00AM - 8:30AM.    Follow signs to the “Race Day Registration” area and fill out the appropriate form to receive your race bag, timing chip, and bib number.  Arc Race T-shirts are not available to race day registrants.  Race Day Registration fees will be $5 higher than pre-registration.

Friday, September 10th | 12:00pm to 6:00pm
Get your race packet ahead of the event and skip the check-in lines on the morning of the race.  Pick up your bib, race program, t-shirt, timing chip and race bag on Friday, September 11th at FleetFeet.  FleetFeet is located at 3453 Erie Blvd East, in DeWitt.  Packet pickup will be available at the store from Noon to 6pm on Friday.  You may also register during pre-race packet pickup.  This is not a mandatory component of the race; all participants may still choose to pick up their packets on the morning of the race - just follow signs in the park for Pre-Registered Participants.

Get a group of friends together, form a team, or race with your colleagues! Arc Race welcomes and encourages teams! There is even a prize for the largest team.

To form a team, simply download your Team Captain’s packet, complete with information and registration forms.  Once you submit your Team Form, we will send you promotional materials, you'll be eligible to compete for the largest team award and your team will receive recognition in our race program.  To help promote your team, you can download additional race posters to announce the forming of your team in your work place, church, or community building.  You can also request brochure stands, yard signs and promotional materials from Arc to help in building your team.  

Many groups proudly create and wear team t-shirts for Arc Race.  Show your team or company pride by wearing your t-shirts during Arc Race!  (Who knows, your photo may end up in our magazine!)  Teams are also encouraged to collect donations in support of the Arc of Onondaga Foundation (pledge forms are included with the Team Captain's packet).  Your team might "pass the hat" at the office or receive pledges from friends and family to sponsor your participation in Arc Race.  Though this is optional, your tax-deductible support helps local programs for fellow Central New Yorkers with developmental disabilities.

To join a team, simply fill in the “Team Information” section of the registration when you sign up to run or walk.  By filling out this section, you will be assigned to the appropriate team and your team will be credited for you during the headcount.  Alternatively, your Team Captain may provide paper registration forms to register everyone together (especially if your company is paying for registration fees), so check with your Team Captain for registration details.

Arc Race has a competitive category in both the 5k and Half-Marathon events for participants who use wheelchairs or other assistive devices, such as a hand crank.  Participants racing in this category can compete for placing and prizes on the same certified course.  Start time for this category will be a minute before gun start to allow all participants to share the course safely.  To participate in this category, simple check the appropriate box on your registration.  For additional information, contact  Gini Gozzi, Special Events Coordinator at 315.476.7441, extension 147 or ggozzi@arcon.org.

Arc Race 2009 is the Onondaga County portion of the NYSARC 60th Anniversary Run/Walk Series. The 60th Anniversary Run/Walk is symbolic of how NYSARC, Inc., Arc of Onondaga's statewide parent organization, was built: through local, grassroots energies spreading from community to community to ultimately come together as a statewide organization. Run/Walks are occurring in each county across New York State as a part of this series, which will culminate with a statewide march to the Capitol steps in Albany on September 17th. Our Arc Race 2009 is dedicated to the 60 years of service, support and advocacy New York State Arc chapters have provided to our fellow citizens with developmental disabilities.
